Sardis
Sardis is on a slow fall with water temps in the low 90s. With water temps
that high most lakes will slow down in terms of numbers of fish caught.
Sardis, however, has many deep channels and standing timber in deep water
for fish to hold to. Crappie fishing is excellent when trolling Strike King
Series 3 crankbaits in shad colors. Troll these cranks from the mouth of
Clear Creek to the dam. White bass action is also excellent early and late
on main lake points on shallow crank baits in shad colors, especially during
“jumps.” When the fish go down, use tailspin baits. Bass fishing has been
good early in the morning on Sammy topwater baits. Fish from Hurricane Creek
down to the lower Graham Lake area. During the day use Carolina-rigs with
Yum craws around Pat’s Bluff and Cole’s Point. The best fishing, however, is
at night. You avoid the extreme heat and land more fish. Most night anglers
are using Texas-rigged 10-inch Yum black neon worms. Catfish action is best
around riprap and boat ramps using cut shad and chicken livers. You can land
lots of catfish from the bank all around Sardis. Clear Creek has many areas
to access the water on foot. Take a lawn chair, insect repellant, a box of
night crawlers or any other favorite catfish bait. Find a shady spot and set
out about three poles. Pretty soon they’ll all be bending over from the tug
of Sardis channel cats. At Clear Creek, you’ll be able to fill a stringer
before the gar find your line and rob you of your bait. Bream fishing is
very good from Piney Point to Black Water Creek along the bank using
crickets. August fishing will be pretty much the same. Determining factors
will be water level, extreme highs (not likely) and extreme lows (not
uncommon).
